Features and Properties of Coronal Mass Ejection/flare Current Sheets

چکیده
Solar eruptions occur when magnetic energy is suddenly converted into heat and kinetic energy by magnetic reconnection in a current sheet (CS). It is often assumed that CSs are too thin to be observable because the electric resistivity in CSs is taken to be very small. In this work, we show the implications for the CS thickness he d estimated from observations of three eruptions by the UVCS and the LASCO experiments on SOHO. We infer the effective causing the rapid reconnection, which predicts much faster reconnection in a thick CS than that he caused by the classical and anomalous resistivities. We find that in these events CSs are observable and have extremely large values of d and , implying that large-scale turbulence is operating within CSs. We also discuss he the properties of the so-called hyperresistivity caused by the tearing mode and the relation to our results. Two-current-sheet Reconnection Model of Interdependent Flare and Coronal Mass Ejection
Time-dependent resistive magnetohydrodynamic simulations are carried out to study a flux rope eruption caused by magnetic reconnection with implication in coexistent flare-CME (coronal mass ejection) events. An early result obtained in a recent analysis of double catastrophe of a flux rope system is used as the initial condition, in which an isolated flux rope coexists with two current sheets: ...
متن کاملMagnetic Reconnection and Mass Acceleration in Flare–coronal Mass Ejection Events
An observational relationship has been well established among magnetic reconnection, high-energy flare emissions and the rising motion of erupting flux ropes. In this paper, we verify that the rate of magnetic reconnection in the low corona is temporally correlated with the evolution of flare nonthermal emissions in hard X-rays and microwaves, all reaching their peak values during the rising ph...
متن کاملThe Magnetic Topology of Coronal Mass Ejection Sources
In an attempt to test current initiation models of coronal mass ejections (CMEs), with an emphasis on the magnetic breakout model, we inspect the magnetic topology of the sources of 26 CME events in the context of their chromospheric and coronal response in an interval of approximately nine hours around the eruption onset. First, we perform current-free (potential) extrapolations of photospheri...
متن کاملSoho Eit Observations of Extreme-ultraviolet “dimming” Associated with a Halo Coronal Mass Ejection
A solar flare was observed on 1997 April 7 with the Soft X-ray Telescope (SXT) on Yohkoh. The flare was associated with a “halo” coronal mass ejection (CME). The flaring region showed areas of reduced soft X-ray (SXR) brightness—“dimmings”—that developed prior to the CME observed in white light and persisted for several hours following the CME. The most prominent dimming regions were located ne...
متن کاملX-ray Observations of Motions and Structure above a Solar Flare Arcade
In this Letter, we describe a solar flare that was observed by Yohkoh in 1999 January 20. This long-duration event is notable because the Yohkoh images show not only the formation of the arcade associated with the coronal mass ejection but also a considerable amount of motion above the arcade in the region normally identified with a large-scale current sheet or the outflow from magnetic reconne...
